I have ubuntu from some cds that they shipped to me but i cant get freedos to load up on boot. I copy all the files off the ISO file and then place it on a cd so why doesnt it load itself when I boot?

hmm copied off from ISO to cd? don't you have to do an ISO burn to make it work? anyway I am not good at duel booting myself, unless its with 2 windows OSs.

bootable cds aren't made by copying the files at it.
you need to specify a special bootimgae for that.

Some burning software requires you to switch on the option to make a CD bootable

I'm not so sure but can't you just unzip (uniso in this situation) the ISO and burn it to a CD? If you have WinRAR go to the options menu and select the 'File Formats' or something tab. Then at the bottom where it says to add more file types type in '*.iso' without these things '. I'm not entirely sure this works, but it's worth a try.

Don't extract the ISO. Burn it directly as-is to a cd. It's a complete image, containing everything there's supposed to be on. Byte-for-byte, track-by-track. Use Nero or CDBurner XP Pro (free) or any other burnsoftware.
If the ISO was made correctly, the CD should turn out bootable.

an ISO is an exact cd image....like Reup said if it was made correctly then it should be bootable....one way to verify this in with either WinISO or MagicISO....if it is not verified as being bootable, both these programs can transform the current ISO into a bootable image that you burn to cd!!!!

Just joined the forum so this is my first post!!!!
