This is my attempt at creating a comprehensive list of software you can use to aid your creative outbursts. It's based on personal exprience and no doubt anyone has contributions. Post them and I will add them!

Contributions from: Maikel, Strobe, Stroggy, Fawfulhasfury, TaloN

@Talon:
'Twas I that created this thread, but nevertheless, I'll be happy to PM you the HTML code. If there's any updates, you'll have to change them yourself though!
3. Microsoft Paint A lot of people on Abandonia.com seem content with using this program but it's really a very limited bitmap-editor. With a bit of patience and a lot of saving you can get some nice results (as I've seen in the Art section)
Like my stuff?

And you spelt Adobe wrong somewhere in that post. Just press Ctrl+F and type Abobe.

There is a bunch of useful things at http://www.polykarbon.com/tutorials/index.htm
Also, he has a list of reference books: http://www.polykarbon.com/library/index.htm

Side question, does anybody know a GIMP plugin or a freeware external program capable of smoothing out lineart like shown here?

Can those 2 be added?
Paint.NET
A nice free picture editor. It may not have all of the photoshop options - but it's better than paint and is very intuitive.

Anim8or
A free 3D modeler. Wasn't been made for complex projects, but is very usefull at teaching how to create 3D objects.
