Actualy, yes. It's one and the same in many ways.
Difference is, we don't try to profit on it, nor take away anyone elses money by doing this. We just want to keep old good games alive, even thou the developers have abandoned (there by the term: Abandonware) them, since there are no money left for them to earn. I sugest you do a little serching on this forum about it, since we've debated it many times... Locking this topic in 15 mins, to give you a chanse to reply.

Abandonia.com is a website that hosts abandonware, which is it's own entity. It's not the be all and end all of abandonware.

The usual meaning of "warez" or "0-dayz" is fresh/new-cracked softwares who was released recently. Thereby harming the developers in a direct way. We don't have the same intentions.

Even if it doesn't exist in any legal terms, I'm sure a suit filed by the producers of abandoned games against an abandonware site would hold up in court. Most likely, people who downloaded abandoned games that were really not abandoned would be fined and/or imprisoned in such a case.

I suggest anyone who is confused reads the articles here - Abandonware Ring. This has a long description of what is and isn't abandonware and links to some very interesting newspaper and magazine articles on the subject!

The sad/fun thing about this is: when we've spoken to major developers, they inofficialy aprove of our work and existance, since it indirect promotes theire current work, and are glad to see that theire work still can be enjoied, even thou the companies they work for (who also legaly holds the copyright), stoped caring about the titles a looong time ago...
