I was wondering why this game has such a low rating (3.2). I absolutely loved this game and was completely sucked into it...I was around 12 years old and it's the first RPG I played. It set the benchmark for me and only Ultima Underworld 2 and Betrayal at Krondor came close. I even enjoyed playing it all over again recently using DosBox (and it takes quite a long time to finish this game).

Most games' public ratings tend to even out at around three, because some people will find them awesome, and some will find them to be a piece of - well, you know what I'm talking about. I find that the reviewer's score is generally a better indication of how good the game is.

Thank you for the link. I have succesfully installed DOSBox, but the game still does not open. Any suggestions......?

You need to do more than just install DOSBox and double click the game file.

The easiest way to run games in DOSBox is to copy the game file, and just right click the DOSBox icon and click paste. Then there's the proper way, and I really can't get into detail on that.

Nice guide you have there. There's one small problem, though: Clicking the links that are supposed to send you to posts doesn't seem to work; They (at least for me) just throw you back to the main forum page.

Anyway, do you think my method (AKA: The Lazy Man's Way) of just copying game EXEs (or BATs) and pasting them right right onto the DOSBox EXE might be the reason some won't work properly? Most works just fine, though. By ''most'' I mean about 90%. But that could be other reasons.

Oh, and is that a Power Dolls background you have? (I'm not saying I'm a Power Dolls fan; Haven't played a single one of them... I'm just wondering.)

As you said, it works in 90% of the games.
But as soon a game needs a more specific directory/subdir/ path, you're screwed.
Simply learn how to work with dosbox, it's easy after all.

BTW: You don't need to copy and whatever you do for the games that can work the lazy way, simply click left on and drag/drop the game's run file on the dosbox shortcut.
As you like it lazy, that's the ultimate lazy procedure, as long it works anyway.

Yeah, it seems that way. I tried out Bioforge before and it couldn't find a file that was supposed to be in C:\bioforge\date\ (or something similair).

About the lazy way: if I were going to just drag & drop, I would need to either have the DOSBox shortcut in the same folder as the game, or have 2 folders up simultaneously. Which I suppose isn't too much of a chore.

But yeah, I pretty much know how to work with DOSBox already. My biggest problem is that it takes so much time, especially as I have the DOS games folder in my folder (which is on the desktop). Such long lines I need to put in (like \documents and settings\user\*user*\ etc.). I suppose I could just move it to C:\, but whatever.

Let's see how hard it is to run dosbox manually...

You create a c:\oldgames\
You edit dosboxconf file and add under [autoexec]:

mount c c:\oldgames
c:


Done, dosbox will run with a c: mounted.
You unzip your games in c:\oldgames\folder , run dosbox and input
cd folder
name


Oh my, that was hard work.
