I've noticed in some of the larger threads (like Xcom 1) that questions are asked repeatedly asked; sometimes on the same page that they were just answered on. What if the first post in such threads linked to/contained a faq and the titles were changed to note that it had a faq?

Someone would have to collect them first.
The easiest for us and fastest for the askers - is to use the search button for the forum.
