To get this game running under DOSBOX, just edit the dosbox.conf file and find the sound emulation where it says:

type=sb16
base=220
irq=7
dma=1
hdma=5

Change sb16 to sbpro1

type=sbpro1
base=220
irq=7
dma=1
hdma=5

Now save and start DOSBOX - it will work without crashing. Increasing cycles does nothing to help with these crashes since it's just the SB16 emulation that is imperfect.

Thanks this got it working for after it kept randomly crashing during shimto plains year 2

Forgotten just how hard this game was! Ah well it was a nice trip down memory even if I didn't finish it

great game,

really different and challenging, and I like the way it combines more relaxed strategic planning as you build your settlement up with frantic fighting when the horde attacks

I thought this game was funny.

When the king’s treasurer arrogantly demanded payment of tribute, this reminded me of the Dune game in which the Emperor also demanded payment otherwise the Sardaukar would intervene on the planet Arrakis. No wonder Duncan (Dunkin Donuts) had such a smiling, affectionate, and friendly physiognomy.

Already the king of the game The Horde seemed nice, nice, but how appearances can deceive... And the fun is that it was the king that was disturbing in our hero and still demanding tributes!? Are there anyone more sadistic than the king?
