You are trying to run the game in plain Windows. I strongly suggest you use DosBox instead.
You can download it here.

You might want to check out the official DosBox FAQ, and particularly this part of it. It is quite helpful for users unfamiliar with DosBox.

Does this actually have a virus? Then what do I do? And does this work on XP like POP1?

Did you try it in Windows XP? After you do, you'll have your answer.
I don't think there's a virus in the game's archive though.
