Default Dungeon Master 1 and 2

I actually own these games but they're on floppy disks (loads of them) in their boxes gathering dust on a bookshelf.

As it is now the 21st Century my Vista PC doesn't have a floppy drive.

Even when I had PCs fitted with floppy drives and running Windows 95 and 98, I never got either game to run properly in a DOS window.

If I purchased an external USB floppy drive would a DosBox emulator be able to run them properly?

I know this may seem an obvious question but I'd love to play these games (DM was great on the Amiga) and would be hacked off if it didn't work out.

Yes.

mount a x:\ -t floppy

Replace the x:\ by the real drive letter under Win.

If your floppies are still ok (??degeneration??) you also could make an image of them and mount that directly in dosbox or using virtual floppydrive software.
That way you still have them games in 20 years from now.

What this topic is doing in Site comments/suggestions is another question....

Yes, it's possible. However.

GET WINIMAGE ASAP.
Then make images of those floppies. There's no guarantee how long they're going to last even if they're still working.

Thanks for the replies - I'm better informed but none the wiser.

PS where in this forum would you advise posting a topic of such a general nature?
I did check all the headings and posted in what appeared to be the nearest approximation.

All technical questions about running games, as well as about using DOSBox or VDMSound belongs into Troubleshooting.
Which is where I moved this topic now.

Question Dungeon Master 1 and 2

I now have Dungeon Master1 running perfectly happily using D-Fend.
Unfortunately the same cannot be said for DM2.
I've transferred the floppies on to my hard drive but when I attempt to run it on D-Fend the original "Skullkeep" exe file (presumably) asks me what drive I'd like it installed to.
This is where the whole thing grinds to a halt.
Any advice please?

Obviously tried C: (amongst other things)!
That's why I'm going round in circles.

What you think about giving some detailed info?
It's kinda hard to help you when all we know is:
*This is where the whole thing grinds to a halt.*

Maybe you would better use dosbox from the prompt instead of using D-Fend.

Tutorials enough how to work with the dosboxprompt around.

BTW, what's your OS? Dosbox version?
