If I gave Ultima Underworld an 8/10, but someone else said it was 8.5, which one is correct? Or should it be 9/10? Every reviewer will judge games differently based on their experience and tastes, so getting truly comparable reviews is impossible.

Certainly from my experience, even the same reviewer can be erratic in their grading decisions, based on mood or whatever.
If this is the case then we should also look into how the games are scored. For example we could have scores for graphics, sound, story, game play and then an overall average.

For games this old, I wouldn't recommend it. Take graphics: for new games, you can measure it up compared to other games in its genre. With 15 year old games ... how will you measure it? Compared to other 15 year old games? Or do you judge the art style by itself? Or do you rate it according to how well the graphics have aged?

I think a score out of 10 with half points is a nice compromise. I was never a fan of the 5 star system myself because a 20% jump between ratings is pretty crazy.

@red_avatar I understand that some of it won't work however I would still rate story, gamplay, inteface, or others. I've often read others say things like "it has great graphics compared to other games of that year" so graphics could still be an option.

I also agree that the 20% ratings jump is absurd
