That would depend on your definition of ''great''.

Anakin/Vader definitely had the highest midichlorian count ever (some 24,000 I think), but much of this raw power remained untapped. As a young Jedi, he would often complain about how his master was ''holding him back'', and even when he was elected to the Council they did not grant him the title of Master. They rightfully sensed the presence of the Dark Side in him, if a bit too late.

He was not the most powerful Jedi or Sith Lord of all time. That honor would probably belong to Marka Ragnos, Tulak Hord or Exar Kun (Sith), and Yoda, Mace Windu and Jacen Solo (Jedi).

What sets him apart from all other characters is the importance of his role, which was determinant to the fate of the Galaxy. No single person had ever had that much of an effect, except perhaps Exar Kun, some 4,000 years before. ''Balance to the Force'', because he exterminated both Jedi (order 66) and Sith (Sidious and himself). And that prophetic role belongs to himself alone.

swords are cool. forces are cool. but the whole movies well... really nothing special compared to some other epic ones.

Actually, I love the first three (well, the first two anyway). Remember you abandonheads, that these were among the first of it's kind, epic, traditional (in an alien sence of the word) and action packed. I will still play donkey kong if I get the chance, even if today's platforms are better looking or make more sense. A barrel tossing gorilla? Hellooooo.... There's nothing original in the plot of SW itself, but who cares? When it came out, we got what we wanted at that time, and for that, I'll still be fond of the first three (yes, you're right... two).

well yeah considering what was available at the time... i think i saw it first on Croatian TV (then known as TV Zagreb). ours was/is not really interested in having sci-fi series or movies.

That's right: someone not using the power he have, doesn't mean to be not the most powerful!

However I'm not so sure if we should consider the jedi/sith contained in the "expanded universe"... or Exar Kun was named even by Gerge Lucas and I don't remember him...

you guys ever seen a real sword fight? i mean it can be boooooring... or it can be incredibly fast. like in sabre competition everything happens in a fraction of a second. and it's all over.

when they compete with swords there is a lot fo tactics involved and sometimes nothing may happen for a few minutes and then suddenly swish swish and it's all over (well in real life it would be in competition you just get a point and things move on). not to mention that in competition a lot of times both opponents are hit the same time.
