The first time when i heard the word "abandonware" was in the year 2002,when i moved away from my hometown.
I was surfing on the internet, looking for the Leisure Suit Larry 2. I almost gave up the hope to find that game until i found it:The first and probably the biggest abandonware site i have ever seen. It had over 8000 games and over 10000 games where waiting to be uploaded in the site! And yes,it had the Leisure Suit Larry 2. I can always remember that page. It used a lot of gray colour. But then,it mysteriously vanished. After many months of downloading the games from there,it vanished. Does anyone else remember this site? Does anyone know why it got removed(ESA?IDSA?)? |

With so many titles, they would be bound to step on a lot of toes.
I would think a lawsuit and deletion of the site seems like a likely case.

Wow. Over 8000 games and 10000 waiting to be uploaded ?! That's something. :w00t: Don't you remember how the site was named ? (I'm just curious, that's all even if it doesn't exist anymore)

it's really wierd that such site could be kept secret (for comparison HOTU brags about being the biggest abw site, having only 5 thousand games), are you sure you didn't mess any numbers?

Classic gamming archive?
They were down and they are getting back up now. There were also some Russian sites Oldwares.ru but they vanished and new sites emerged. Oh and BTW i still don't see what's the evil if you "share" things. i mean i can buy a movie and tell my whole familly to see it with me. Oh no! that would make me an evil pirate. or for example i bought this CD and i was listening to it with my bro. terrible act of piracy. And speaking of piracy - why is it called that way? pirates were ruthless robbers who were killing people, raping women, they were dirty, smelly, with poor manners. Are people sharing their games and files anything like that? i very much doubt it. these people just copy and share (and some sell the files for personal profit). They are being very communist though - sharing files for greater good. what's mine is yours and so on.

as far as I know piracy is just a pretty word to call this.
the problem with this kind of stuff (beside illegal sale of material) is that if you lend your friend a book or a CD, and he likes it he might buy his own, if he copies it, he sure as hell won't. in the end "it's money that makes the wold go round". yups, most games and music are made for a profit, which "piarcy" decreases, so creators of this stuff have to decrease quality. an iteresting thought though is that piracy, in a way, provides competition to legal versions lowering the prices for us. so next time you like some game you donloaded buy something from it's company, it's only fair... |
