Warlords 3 Vista
I am posting here because I have searched all over the internet and have not found any information which has helped me. My problem is that after starting warlords 3 reign of Heroes and playing it for around a minute the game freezes and forces me to close it. I have tried running it in compatibility modes for win95 and win98 but doing this made it crash upon startup. The only suggestion I could find on the internet was to create a shortcut and add /WINCURSOR to the end of the target but when I tried this it gave me an error saying that the target was invalid. Any ideas?

It is though. When I enter it my Target looks like "C:\Program Files\Red Orb Entertainment\Warlords III\war3.exe"/WINCURSOR

wincursor = use windows cursor
-> The game's cursor causes the crash.

Help! I Need Somebody,
HELP! NOT JUST ANYBODY,
HELP! YOU KNOW I NEED SOMEONE, HELP!!!!!! Woe woe woe woe... Hold up... Am I getting this right? You got this game runnig right on Vista??? I am confused with what you did to get it to work... It is my understanding that the conflict is caused by the diferent cursors... I myself have tried many variations of: ("C:\Program Files\Red Orb Entertainment\Warlords III\war3.exe" /WINCURSOR) but it still eventually freezes... I have gone so far as to try to alter the CURSORS.pcx file so that there wouldn't be any change in the cursors... PLEASE help me out!!!! I think I have put in over 24 hours just in trouble shooting this antique of a game... can't get it to play longer than about 5 min... and it seems to always crash when switching between one of it's many cursors! Please tell me what I'm doing wrong... I don't want all the time I've put in to trying to fix this game to have been spent in vain. |

scenarios in warlords
I fixed the whole problem by using wincursor right... but now it seems that there is no fix for it crashing whenever you try to open a scenario or a campaign is there any fix for this ? (Vista)
(i saw some where that the game also crashed on anything other than single core cpu's is this true?) |

Got it working by cd ing to the Warlords 3 directory and executing war3.exe /wincursor , under vista with no combatibility mode

solution
Hi!
If anyone still has the problem, here is the solution that worked for me completely right on Vista. Add the /wincursor thing as described above, and set compatibility to Windows NT. It worked on my machine well so far. |
