Im terrible at making decisions on a whim. With no feedback from statistics I feel blind, left stumbling.

A few of us abandonians have rallied together and are starting development on a game. We have been talking about what races would be welcomed most in our world.

The theme of the game is fantasy. We are hoping to put a fresh spin on things by coming up with some unique ideas on player races.

Some opinions on your favorite race types would be most welcomed.

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

crystaline lifeforms. cuz they are shiny. there glowing nature would be handy in dark caves and stabbing them would be pretty much out of the question.

Aliens.
But cool ones, not greys.
Like, a mix of Alien and Starcraft Zerg, that'd be cool

I would make new races, just not too different in stats from the "classic" ones so that the player doesn't feel completely unfamiliar with the gameplay. I mean, there should be a particularly agile race, a sturdy and strong one, a weak but skillful at magic one, and so on. And slightly unbalanced ones too, to make it more challenging (e.g, races weak at early levels, but getting a bonus as they evolve later in the game; strong races at early levels, evolving more slowly than others).

I've had too much Monty Python's this last week, so I can't think of any serious race concept right now. Though I might really enjoy an RPG where a battle between Fat Elves* and Cocaine-Addicted Elephants can take place.

*Pun not intended.

We need you on the development team. LOL It could get interesting with your insight and perspective.

Im thinking along the lines of your post Void. The races will certainly need balance between them.

These all sound like noble suggestions so far. These replies help alot. Thanks.

I agree k:

It could be really cool if you'll get to do a perfect mix of fantasy and humorous atmosphere!

clouds or imp's.

or have you ever considered using races that are not in germanic/normanic/norway mithology?

Like you have Slavic mythology with lots of various beings.

gods:

* Svarog
* Perun
* Svetovid

}" Triglav

* Belibog in Črnibog
* Banik
* Domovoj
* Dvorovoj
* Radagast
* Cislobog
* Stribog
* Horos

* Dajbog
* Volos
* Jaro
* Lada

* Simargl
* Koledo

mithological beings:

* jaga baba
* Koščej
* Kresnik
* Njia
* rusalka
* Škrmuc
* Utva zlatokrila
* zlatorogi jelen
* Zlatorog

Mithological heroes (true persons [!] but fictional stories):

* Bogumir
* Ilja Muromec
* Oleksa Dovbus
* princ Ivan
* kraljevič Marko
