How about a Cracktro?

In theory I think it should not be too much of a problem to put an intro on an exe. You just have to create a new one with a small prog, say a couple of K, that runs before it.

I havent made any myself but theres a forum Here with quite a few people who have been making stuff like this since back in the DOS/Amiga days. I'm sure if one of the admin from AB got in contact, people there would be would be happy to help you guys out

Someone had the same idea as you, actually he got himself started on the program and has created a new topic on it. If the admins eventually implement it, that's another story...

I think its ironic that the site has the words free games in it and you have to pay for the games! Also who in the world would pay to download old games, i can see buying them in original boxes and discs but paying for downloading!? Thats absurd!

ironic yes, but I'm not sure I agree with it being so absurd to pay for downloads as people often seem to forget it does cost for a site's bandwidth when they download games , at least if people wan't to avoid all those irritating popups !.

that particular site I would NEVER pay to but I have donated to plenty of other sites that offered free stuff when I was able to as if everybody takes that idea even the best sites eventually tend to go under as the costs rise

I think everyones threatening emails probably went into his spam bin as he never replied even though I did not expect him to. I'm just thinking that he probably left them there to rot.

Well the name is still from the days before the guy started charging for games...

I remember about 2 years before I came to Abandonia I first came accross his site and back then he acctually did offer all the downloads for free, but he was already leaching from HOTU. It was about half a year later that he started charging for games (so this has been going on for several years already).

Well, the reviews are intelectual property of the authors - unless the author gives a consent to it, the review may not be used by anybody. But once the review is on a site (any site) it's considered to be "published". The reviewer still holds all the rights to it, but anybody can quote the reviewer (so as long as it would say - THIS REVIEW - by THIS AUTHOR) you wouldn't have a case.

The screenshots are the property of the copyright holders of the programe (they hold all the rights to every part of it, including all the graphics - the same would go for music), but this goy doesn't use any screenshots (so he's not doing anything illegal there).

The links (leeching) itself unfortunately would have just the opposite effect. The thing is this guy is simply linking to something somebody else already put up. Like I said before, it's almost like a browser search. He's not doing anything illegal (in this case), he's just pointing you to a place on the internet where somebody offered a game. It's like a search engine, but one that doesn't take you to the site the host wants you to go (like if you google for GAME & ABANDONIA and you're taken to the review of the game), but it takes you directly to the downloadable place (at least that's what it used to - I'm not about to pay him just so I could find out what he's offering at the moment). The Underdogs implemented the type in password for downloads to prevent this. So even if you'd call ESA on him or something - it's not him who's hosting the game. It would almost be like sueing google for showing you porn links (after you've searched for porn) because you're a minor and shouldn't be allowed to see any (then why did you look).

So unless this guy is not quoting the authors (a case might be built on that - as it is stealing intelectual property), he's not doing anything illegal (just highly immoral and bothersome). Unfortunately if you really think objectivley about it abandonia is more illegal then his site (abandonia is hosting games - which is basically illegal - that guy is only providing links, like a specific type of a search engine).

He does not have my permission to use my review or walkthroughs. He does not credit me as having made the review either.
