Well, in that case the emulator of course doesn't come as close up to the quality as the original piece of hardware. Still it's a quite nice change (sometimes even great) from the default Soundblaster MIDI in DosBox or VDMSound, for those who would like to listen to a better music in classic Dos games. Especially with the right soundcard and some more advanced knowledge of Dos and his own computer which allows for some finetuning.

Well, the older SoundBlasters like the AWE32 and 64 didn't have any better wavetable MIDI. One GOOD thing they had though was their own DSP chip specifically for the MIDI - why the heck did Creative remove them? It would make the newer cards sound far better <_<

Could upload samples of the AWE32's MIDI if wanted :bleh:

Of course the older SoundBlasters like the AWE32 and 64 didn't have any better wavetable MIDI, they're miles worse than what Roland's cards managed to produce. That why the Soundblaster option in the Dos games should be the last resort when nothing else available, and that's why using the emulator is still a better option than not using it. In most cases at least.
Speaking of AWE32, the single MIDI for Dungeon Keeper that was designed specifically for Soundblaster AWE32 sounds much better when played in MT-32 mode, with the emulator. Ironical, isn't it.
