yeah, i quit playng the game after a while when seeing all the bugs and terrible AI (playng on highest difficulty), so i probably did miss the best parts of the game, but it would be a HORROR to get there with it.

The AI really isn't so bad... Well, it is, but doesn't feel so bad.
They make horrible mistakes, don't use grenades etc. and are way too easy, but at least they don't act stupidly and their behaviour is generally not obviously moronic (like in most other games).

About bugs, I'm a bit amazed. It seems about half of the playerbase encounters a bug at every turn, and the other half gets one of the most stable and bug-free experiences in the last few years (:P). Myself? I've had one CTD ever since the game came out (the bugged dogs at Red Forest. Fixed a long time ago), and experienced about three bugged quests.

Strategy and STALKER really don't belong in the same sentence.

A-Life-driven War of the Factions, a new version of the game engine X-Ray 1.5. and many other.

Fixed bugs?

anyway many complaints for this game even before it is released - gameplay similar, A-life as it should in fact be in this stalker (and maybe it will be in patch 1.1), maps in Clear sky that were supposed to be in current Stalker. all in all so far nothing new.

especially since many stuff was already anticipated for Stalker but in the end it was scrapped (no one really knows why exactly), since what it came out is an unfinished product of some sort. for example cars, prone posiotion, a-life (event driven AI)...

I've read that cars and other vehicles were removed because they made it too easy to just ride right into an anomaly and thus get yourself killed by an accident.

Dean Sharpe, aka the Chernobyl Slasher (alright, I made that up. His reputation fits such a nick, though) is the common scapegoat... That equals: GSC impatience with the long development cycle.

And after the maps were scrapped and the remaining ones cut in half, it's easy to see why no vehicles remain :P

Oh, and gregor, you can reactivate Alive any time you want to by changing one or two lines somewhere. Believe me, without a mod that extensively tweaks it, you don't want to :P
The system's there, but apparently the time wasn't giving to tweak it, so it was deactivated.
