Yeah; I'm back again. Anyway, I used McAfee's Nuts&Bolts Deluxe 98 to do a disk repair, and now I can't run a bunch of programs because Oleaut32.dll is out of date or something. What have I done and what can I do about it?

Full format and reinstall!

Not really. Have a look here and here to understand your problem and get a working version of oleaut32.dll
Next time don't use repair software that you don't understand.

In other words, don't touch McAfee. Ok. I couldn't seem to extract that file to my windows\system directory. It said something like,"Can't recreate file that already exists" or something like that. Weird, eh?

try to extract the file to your desktop, then manually remove the one in windows/system, then move the desktop one into the old one's place.

I tried that, but Win98 won't let me delete the dll. Way to go windows. I guess I'll try in Safe Mode, I dunno.

Ok, that didn't work. I think the answer lies in booting DOS. I need some help with that since all I can do in DOS is browse around.

Yes, boot in MS-Dos and you should be able to do whatever you want with the files. If you still cant, the answer lie with playing with attrib.exe commands.

Post back here if you need help with attrib.

I figured it would work with DOS (the pc user's safe-haven). I'm just not quite sure how to use the copy command. Yeah, I've just mastered browsing around in DOS; I guess now is the time to learn how to actually use it. :[img]http://www.abandonia.com/forum/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' />

http://www.computerhope.com/copyhlp.htm#03 should help. Here's some example syntax assuming Oleaut32.dll is on the Desktop and needs to be moved to Windows\System.

copy C:\Windows\Desktop\Oleaut32.dll C:\Windows\System
