Default Problems with Burner

My DVD/CD Burner has been having trouble lately. It burns a cd for a short while but does not finish the process. But most of the time it does. I don't know if its bad blank cds or its overheating. I just bought this computer 2months ago so I can't see it burning out so fast. But my apartment has no air conditioning and I have only a fan. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

What exactly happens when it doesn't finish the burning process?

What is the machine's configuration, including the power supply?

My DVD recorder creates problems with some CD/DVD's brands (the recorder does not recognize them as empty, it fails to complete the writing, etc).
Besides, with original recorder drivers installed Windows do not recognizes the DVD recorder so I'm forced to use a Windows compatible driver :notrust:
Try to use different CD/DVD's brands and/or try to reinstall the Burner without the producer's driver.

It just stops and pops out the cd. Its says burning process failed. I use Nero 7 Essentials. I have Dell Optiplex GX620 with a 3.0 Ghz processor with 4G of ram. It has terabyte Hd with Nvidea GeForce 7300. The DVD/Cd RW is a LG GSA-H55N. Don't know about the power supply. But my room has been a scorcher. Its been in the 90s to 100s. Could temperature affect it any?

Uninstall that crappy Nero thing as fast as you can and install
http://www.imgburn.com/
Keep the settings at 'default' -( simply don't touch any setting)-.

Try again, at least you'll get a log when thing goes wrong.

If still problems:
Create some ISOs from valid CDs to test the reading capacities of your hardware.
Compare the ISOs to the CDs.
Next step:
Put a CDRW in and try some things out.
At least you won't create a pile of frisbees when testing things out.

Keep the write speed a bit on the low side to begin, keep an eye on the soft and device buffer, keep the write speed so that they remain filled.
Uninstall any 'special cool looking non-essential' stuff *if* you have them.
Kill the useless widgets.
Close things that run on the background.

Always check the 'verify' box when writing.

As you have 4GB RAM try to set the buffer to 100-150MB.

[dit]
Also take a look in 'sheduled tasks' (admin tools) and deselect defrag if sheduled, heavy HD read/write on the background from this one and burning CDs is usually a bad combination.
If you're still using -*if*- Windefrag get yourself
http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag
and run it once in a while manually, disable any MS Defrag.

I had that problem of my burner not completing a burn-job, so I changed disc brands, but that didn't work. What I did was I used my DVD machine's cleaning disc - no more problems. Sometimes the simplist (and cheapest) solutions works for the best. Just a thought. Hope that works for you.

I'd also try a different program first of all.
