Default Star Trek - Starfleet Command III

Hiya, i saw this game on HOTU for download.

I would really like to have this game (being a trekky and all) but the weird thing is... where starfleet command 1 is still being sold, this doesnt seem to be the case for part 3.

And it being for download on several sites gave me the weird impression this game is abandon ware?

This is a DOS only (for the most part) site, no chance.

Default Star Trek: Starfleet Command III [2017]

Acording to Underdogs SC3 is now abandonware, one of the reasons for this that they mentioned is that Toledon (the maker of the game) no longer exists. Unfortunately they only offer the game on torrent which doesn't seem to agree with my computer. Is there any chance of a direct download for it being placed on Abandonia?

Well, seems Activision was the publisher, and according to the oldwarez list they don't easily abandon their games. Also, since the game is from 2002, I would guess we will have to wait...

In otherwords buy insanely expensive used copy that might not even work or wait, what 2 more years for it to cross into public domain? Shouldn't the demise of Toledon and the fact that it can't be bought anymore anywhere, with the exception of used copies, have already placed it in public domain?

Not necessarily. And "public domain" doesn't exist as far as I am concerned, unless you are refering about freeware...

The Developer was Taldren. But the Publisher was Activision. Core ESA member, and thus under active ESA protection until 2017.

Copyrights actually last for 95 years. I don't know who told you otherwise, but they were terribly wrong.

Allright... Someone said on an abandonware website that a game chould be downloaded after something like 5 years providing that other conditions were met as well.

That varies from game to game and pulisher respectively.

Every site has their own definition of Abandonware.
Some only care if a game is old and do not concern themselves with trivialities such as the game still being sold or protected.
