If you have tried Gravis Ultrasound, or Pro Audio Spectrum, you wouldn't say that. Both claimed to be "SB compatible", both had issues with being compatible.
Gravis Ultrasound's SB-emulation driver (sbos) was often not even recognized as a Sound Blaster by some, if not many games, and Pro Audio Spectrum / Pro Audio Spectrum 16 played distorted and stuttering sound in Sound Blaster setting in games or programs, and sometimes also wasn't paying at all. Both of which are everything else than "SB compatible".
