How to run TFX?
Hi there,
Great forum and very good set of instructions for DOXBox. I have downloaded TFX and DOSBox from this site and gone through the instructions regarding how to use it. I cannot find Norton Commander anywhere except as a set of IMG files which I could not use, so I have tried to run the game directly from the command prompt in DOSBox. DOSBox has been set up to auto mount in C:\oldgames I then typed cd tfx start I then get 2 lines saying Loading... C:\TFX> and nothing else happens. All the tfx files are shown when I type dir and the exe file is called start. Many thanks in anticipation. |

Try this:
Type dir.exe dir.bat and dir.com Look for any setup file of these 3 types. The setup file can have other names, like "install". Run the setup and set sound to the same as you have set in the DOSBox configuration file (default is Sound Blaster 16 at address 220 irq 7 dma 1 hdma 5). Another possible solution: Maybe DOSBox is set to too few cycles. Try increase the number of cycles 100%, and if that helps, fine tune the cycles to fit the game/your pc.

Thanks for the really quick reply.
There were Start and Config files under dir.exe A TFX.bat and a Q2.com The Config took me to a Game Configuration page (the cound was from the correct address and IRQ) but once I'd changed the settings, when I pressed the save option I got a red box that said "sorry couldn't create TFX.cfg" I tried changing the cycle from 10000 (as per the instructions) to 20000, and the cycle up and down from 1000 to 2000 but the same thing still happened. I then changed the cycle to 100000 and cycle up and down to 10000 and still no change. Any other suggestions??!! |

Make sure the game folder (via Windows) has the "read only" box UNCHECKED.

Thanks, I think we're making progress at least.
I unchecked the read only box and was then able to save the configurations. I then wrote start and got a short pause with Loading... but then I got the message Loading...No parser file specified What does that mean?? Getting quite excited by the prospect of playing this game again now, not played it in years! |

Did you try to run the TFX.BAT, not the START.EXE?

Then the parser file is specified within the batch file (TFX.BAT). Happy gaming!
