BT all the way. DC is a bad idea given it's weird implementation, bugs and generally bad cross-platform support (throw a stone if you really think that there is a decent linux client). Overall it looks very "childish" and it is overbloated. And yes, we, unfortunately, use it as a primary file-sharing software in our LAN, so I know what I'm talking about.
As for speeds. Well, folks, it depends on who's seeding, your connection and all the way between you and the person(s) transmitting to you. I'm a memeber of few private torrent trackers and I must say the speed is just amazing and often is only limited by the bandwidth limit of my ISP, for example 80-160 KBytes/s is a normal speed there. So what's the problem really? I'm all for Abandonia tracker and I'd love to test it. Heck I would just be there to seed. |

Using torrents would make it possible to distribute CD-versions without making too big a load on the servers. I'm all for using direct download for smaller files and torrents for the larger.

I voted DC but I just thought maybe BT would work.. Just get a private tracker, maybe on this server, who knows? I'm sure, as a community, people will constantly share, well I hope so

Oh, another note on DC: how are you going to limit people not to share warez/porn/inappropriate/esa-protected/etc? How are you going to stop people spread fake releases and infected executables? The answer is: no way you can do it. It is because how DC is made, made for simplicity, made for win32 script kiddies, period. Being sort of advanced ed2k it shares same bad concept of everyone being able to share just anything. Torrents on the other hand are limited to specific tracker, you can limit uploading of a new torrents to a few trusted people and that's it. I'm pretty much sure Abandonia staff doesn't want to get caught because of kids spreading warez in their DC hub, so infact DC is out of question and shoudn't even be there in this poll.

That leaves BitTorrent alone on the field.
