not just for me but anyone who has holiday storys/pictures to share.

this is heildleburg. it is kind of the german version of cambridge i suppose. me and the women just spent a week there and it was awesome. it has given me an appreciation of germany that i did not expect. i learnt some valuable lessons about national stereotypes
1: the germans are efficent
true. you could set your watch by the damn trains. they were that good
2: the germans are humourless.
false. it is a dark humour is all. here is an example. was sat down outside having a kebab and a beer. while i was waiting for my beer a german guy starts talking to me in french. reosen being that im wearing a tshirt that has a advert for a french pron film on it, after a little linguistic confusion he realises i am english and he switches to english. he tells me off for using french ciggerete papers for my roll up and offers me some german. we get chatting, he says about his freind in the american army, where to go for good traditional german food (20 minutes on the train, heildleberg is like the only place in germany with no german food) then he gets on about where im from. i tell him how i was born in norfolk, describe the nearest city to me ect, he leans over, looks me deep in the eyes and says "i cannot be sure where you are from as i dont know england very well but i know someone who would"
i sat back had a slug from my beer a drag from me *** and said "who was that then"
he leant forwards pointed his finger at me and said "hitler, he would have knowen. he new evry town in england as he wanted it so badly"

pause. manic laughter from all people within audio range. (including me) was just so funny, maybe you had to be there dunno.

anyways im just going to post pictures one by one as each one has a story to it. here is the town itself.

its a damn shame having to edit down these pictures, loses a lot of the clarity. i need an image host so i can post nice hi res pictures.

heidleberg is an amazing place. the castle pictured got bombarded by the french in the 17th century. the area at that time was ruled by the french and had a french prince living in the castle. the french prince died and the germans (prussians, whatever) moved there own guy into the castle. this pissed the french off royally so as an example there army burned the town. waited for it to go out. then burned it again. a consequence of this is there is only one building left that is older than the 17th century.
but it was left alone by bombers during ww2 as the allies wanted it as a base, so evrything after that period is pretty much intact.

also we saw a fire bellied newt in one of the castle gardens ponds. aint seen a newt for years now. there were wild straberries growing in some hedges near it. they tasted better than any strawberrie i ever tasted in my life. really small they were.

Heh heh, I don't think Astral has actually taken his vacation yet. Thus the borrowed pics. I'm sure he'll have some more after the trip, though.

He didn't said he took them. They prolly depict the place he's going to. Even tho this is not exactly the purpose of the topic. I'll post mine in a month when I'll be back from holiday.

Edit: I'm 1 minute late.
