Question Changing password

I found out that unfortunately, I have to edit my real name, birth date and my home address in order to be able to change my password.

Not to be rude or anything but I prefer to avoid entering my birth date and home address on the internet, sometimes these things are used to recover passwords (and in identity thefts)

Why is the site built like this? Is this some kind of bug?

Browser ID:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; sv-SE; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/3.0.1

Kind Regards
//Nick

Wink Suggested editing?

I thought this was a serious site and expected serious answers. After searching for "password" without any results or sticky related to the subject I decided to post.

I really like this website and I admire everyone of the community that made it possible. To be willing to be a part of it should be encouraged, not discouraged through fishing people into entering personal information without a license agreement or even a secure sockets website.

Posting this I suggest the rules of the profile page part of vBulletin board be edited to encourage a larger community with optional forms! I can understand birthday validation for teen/adult content games, but after checking the site I found that validation non existent.

I don't know about you but I don't like providing false information in forms to skip through security.

Kind Regards
//Nick

Then you're not worth the trouble. You should not be on the internet first of all if you can't go over giving out false information.

I hope this thread will get closed fast. I'd hate to see this one turn into a newbie bashing thread again...

My dear, in teh internet world it's an obligation to protect yourself.
If you really willingly provide accurate personal information about yourself every time someone ask those from you, you gonna have troubles sooner or later.

Frankly, you should ask the Studentis webteam about it, since it was them who are responsible for the technical side of things.

Also. The name, birth and adress information are required by the Drupal database (responsible for the main site) rather than by VBulletin database. Otherwise I'd have fixed it already.
I've looked around the admin controls for the site a while ago, but could not find any way to make these fields non-mandatory. :notrust:

So we're stuck with it at least for the time being.

I did not find any useful information in this thread. Its a lot easier to explain the bug than bashing people unknowing of it.

Aha I see that Studentis.com the Swedish company is supplying this service. http://www.studentis.com/?q=sv/node/22 The information was not apparent on the site I fear.

I sent the following message to the devs btw, hopefully this issue will be resolved soon I will update once I get any responses.

Greetings

Im not certain that you are aware of this issue but it is quite annoying
for new members of this great community. As a visitor I highly appreciate
all the work dedicated into this website and would like to eventually
contribute to it.

I ran across an error on the profile configuration on "my account" page.
http://www.abandonia.com/en/user/64078/edit

It appears that a lot of information is mandatory and that you need to
supply your real name and domestic address in order to change your
password.

Could you please update this section? I fear the issue may discourage
other interested contributors of the community.

I made a post on the forum concerning this issue here:
http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=17619

Kind Regards
Nick
