I made it work! There really is a .pif file called "ms-dos games with support of EMS and XMS memory.pif", it was in the windows directory, so here is my newbie procedure: i ran that file, and from this DOS mode i could only acess the files in the C:\Windows directory, and i dont know how to come back to C:\ (i mean, i dont know how to go to C:\ from C:\windows, or from C:\games\darklands to C:\games), so i ctrl+c ctrl+v my darklands directory to C:\windows\games, and ran the game file. And it worked. thanks everyone |

I am having an issue with this game. I'm running it in dosbox, the version here from abandonia. Everything seems to be running smoothly, but after 10-15 minutes of play my game stalls and I have no option but to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get back to my desktop.
Any suggestions on how to fix this, I'm really interested in playing this |

First: Have you tried Alt + Enter to exit full screen mode, and then close the DosBox window?
Second: Have you experienced the same problem with other games via DosBox? Third: (if no): Try disableing sound before launching the game, just to see if the game still freezes.

Games run through dosbox usually works, I've been using it for years so I'm not a complete moron at it... Anymore
Okay, I can alt+enter as well, but that really doesn't help with game performance since it's still frozen... Actually, I enabled sound and that has helped a bit |

Umm, you ENABLED sound and it helped? Usually, it's the other way around... Anyway, looks like this is out of my league. Stick around and someone might be able to help

Yes, I enabled sound and it helped. I was pretty surprised too. Just had another crash, but if it doesn't get worse than this I guess I can play it as it is

how did it "help a bit"? (you mean it freezes less frequently? or you never run it with sound when it freezed) then, what are your core and cycles settings?

I enabled sound and now it rarely freezes. I'm cycling it at 12000 and have my dosbox set to dynamic core, if I remember correctly.
Anyone else by me think the copy protection on this game is a bit over the top? I mean, I have to consult the manual every 5 minutes or so... |
