Default Heavy Gear

Greetings all,

First I would like to thank you guys for the wonderful work you have done. This website has allowed me to play games that I adored as a child such as Silent Service, Ultima, Ghostbusters, Gauntlet, Might and Magic, and Wing Commander.

I am requesting that a DOS-Box version of Heavy Gear be made, it was an amazing game but I have not been able to find a playable version and wonder if the Community would be interested in tackling this project.

I will provide what little information I can find about this title below:

Heavy Gear
Activision
Mech Sim
Release: Oct 31, 1997

If you have any questions power here or PM me I will do my best to attain answers.

I'm almost sure Heavy Gear was a purely Windows-based title.

You are correct.

OP should check this out, though:
http://video-games.shop.ebay.com/Games-/139973/i.html?_nkw=Heavy+Gear&_catref=1&_fln=1&_mPrRngCbx =1&_sop=&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282

(Not commenting on the sold or not issue, just pointing in the direction of some cd's available somewhere. Looks like a copy can be had for about $4.)

Ok thanks for the feedback!

Although Heavy Gear isn't sold and is not protected by the ESA, Activision, believe it or not, still supports it. Need proof? Here's a copy of what they sent me in an e-mail in response to an inquiry regarding compatibility with Windows 7:
Quote:
Hello and thank you for contacting Activision Technical Support,

The game was developed before the Windows 7 operating system was made available, and was not thoroughly tested to be used with the Windows 7 operating system. The game may not work on this operating system. We can try a few troubleshoot solutions to see if the game can be run on your PC, but the game cannot be guaranteed to work properly.
As such...

Heavy Gear - [STILL SUPPORTED]

EDIT: Please ignore this reply - see reply #7 for the reason.

Kind of a slippery slope really as this would mean that we would have to look through every single game which was developed/published by Activision which we have approved to see if they still support it.

After some internal discussion with other moderators, I have decided the support answer is 'canned' - that is to say, not legitamite proof of the developer still supporting the game. As Activision doesn't provide patches for this game - or any other kind of support for Heavy Gear, for that matter - I am revoking my rejection of the Heavy Gear game request. Therefore...

Heavy Gear - [APPROVED]
