Indeed. :P

It's certainly about the broader question whether to include non English games, at least (very) selected ones (this one would qualify no matter what). If you want we can take this discussion elsewhere, or just discard it and reject the request.

How about an English fix?
You could translate it using Hex editors.

Yeah... (?)

It may be a worthy effort considering the game's quality... Will have to take a look. (Actually I haven't even played this game myself...)

Still it wouldn't be the original version any longer.

PS: The question remains open however, until it's closed.

Thanks mate! k:

Anyway Dave et al., this needs to be clarified. The original DOS game is in Spanish only. I don't know if hack-translating it would qualify it for Abandonia, but it's hardly worth the effort if the translation is already made, in the remade version.

The remake, according to Kosta's rules, (a) belongs to AReloaded (b) and NOT here. Notice however that I'm not saying we need to follow that rule any longer--the current admins decide.

Anyway this game does belong to AR no matter what we do over here. I'll make a request over there too.

La Abadía del Crimen

[FREEWARE]

The Remake go to AR while a translated Original goes to AB.

Case closed. (or not?)

I would say yes, but the happy ending would be to put the translated version on site. We need it +review+screenshoots

OK let's gather facts together:

The copyright to the original game belonged to the now defunct Spanish company Opera Soft (Wikipedia, HOTU). I think their games can be safely considered abandonware, probably in the public domain actually (would that make them freware?)--since I'm not aware anyone bought their copyrights.

The original is in Spanish.

There was no freeware release AFAIK. The code wasn't given away at any time either.

There is a fan remake, multilingual, for Windows. Which incidentally is a faithful reverse engineered replica and reportedly a master of art at it (but that's irrelevant to the status). Freeware (not oldie but remake).

The remake would belong to AR. If AB hosted a version, the logical choice would be the original. The problem is that it's in Spanish. There's little point in translating it since there's a perfectly good remake, and if it's translated somehow that would make it no longer the original.

If you ask me hosting the original Spanish version (and linking to the remake at AR and vice versa, both sites were meant to be synergic) could be considered.

Yes we could consider this solution, but first I would like to see the difference between the original and the replica. Because if they are basically the same game we could add it instead of the original and consider it an improved version.

That's what it is really, and very faithful to the original. It was made by disassembling the original and translating the parts specific to old PCs into their Win32 equivalents:

http://www.abadiadelcrimen.com/script.html

The original version for PC was CGA and this one has 256 colours. It has improved sound too. Otherwise the workflow of the program isn't similar, it's exactly the same, that is it's an exact replica. It even displays the defunct company in the logo just like the original.

These are the two versions:

Original, direct download: http://geocities.com/la_abadia_del_crimen/abadiapc.zip
from http://www.geocities.com/la_abadia_del_crimen/

Remake, direct download: http://www.abadiadelcrimen.com/downl...dia32_2008.zip
from http://www.abadiadelcrimen.com/

Notice there were also releases for Amstrad CPC, MSX and ZX Spectrum, which you can download from the Geocities webpage.
