Default Red Alert on Windows XP

well I had some spare change and decided to finally buy a new copy of red alert (my other cd is broken)
So after setting up the compatibality and everything I unstall it
everything is fine.

First problem:
I can't run the windows 95 version, whenever I try I get the following erromessage: "the procedure entry point SMapLS_IP_EBP_12 could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.DLL"

oddly enough the dos version works like a charm without even using dosbox or anything else.
Now this also means the resolution is even worse than usual.
But I can live with that (no pain no game, eh?)

now the problem is the sound.
music and movies work fine (a bit choppy the first few seconds but after that it runs smoothly)
but the voices of the units ingame are poor, very poor.
For example instead of "yes sir" I hear "ye ir"
I've tried other sounddrivers in the install, but either it doesn't find it or I don't hear any sound.

The answer would usually be simple:
run it in dosbox
or
run it with VDMsound

doesn't work
DosBox takes a long time and then I end up with a black screen.

On to VDMsound then.

It thinks a bit, then it asks me to insert the Red Alert cd (which is inside)
doesn't work.

so, what am I to do now?

Alright is a easy fix. Go to WEstwoods old ftp server (Its still up btw) and download the C&C Gold patch for windows xp. It also works for Red Alert. Put the dll file in the REDALERT folder and it will overwrite the old .dll. Then right click on RA.exe and set the compatability to Windows 95. Thats All Have Fun

The patch removes network play in this great game, and unless someone makes a IPX --> TCP/IP emulator... may great dosgames in network are lost forever.

That's not necessary..
All you have to do is making the setup file Win95 compatible and install the game.
Then you go to whereever you installed the game and make RA.exe Win95 compatible, that should do the trick and you'll even still be able to play over network (just don't forget to install the IPX protcol)

doesn't work. go to ra.afraid.org and download the beta patch there that adds full compatability with windows and network play (through gamespy as well)
