The Media are always trying to present news that can be a "sensation", no matter if they have much to say or not, the important thing is to mention it as if they know everything about that. I see two immediate opposite sides on that: first, they may cause panic, because no one knows for sure what's going to happen and people tend to react negatively; second, they make people talk about it, and even if most of the things aren't said, at least we are aware of it's existence. Now, if there are people reacting in panic even not knowing the all true, imagine how they would behave if they find out the real menace. We are talking about something that can kill people and that no one can control. I have no doubts that 20 years ago this would be a very serious epidemic - maybe it will even turn too, but I don't think its effects will be at the same scale. And yes, I am worried, but there's not much I can do to avoid it so, why should I be in panic? |

Oh wait, that's quite unlike me... and it's spaming... Back to topic: @Puffin - well I can imagine that the situation is getting serious. I mean it's about time the birds start returning from the south (the spring is about to come). And if so many birds are infected here (BTW we're talking about water birds) how knows how many are infected in the ocuntries that probably don't even control such things (I really can't imagine some African countries fighting civil wars caring for birds flu). But like I said before - there are ways to contaminate yourself - so avoid those! Don't come in contact with wild birds. Don't let poultry come in contact with them (keep all your chickens somewhere inside). Don't eat raw bird meat or eggs (which could cause other probelms as well). And most of all - don0t smugle birds or come in contact with smuglers - they are still the likliest cause of spreding the desease (they tend to hide from the law, so their movements and locations are unpredictable - in contrary to those of wild birds). |

fear pigeons. they come into contact with migrationary birds. is a good reosen to kick them out of the way when you walk down the road. but personally i look forwards to it.
it has to happen to balance the population equation. its been to long scince a large war or a plauge. bring it on! how long untill it is illegal to sneeze in public again? |

Our most intelligent and honorable Minister of Health literally said that we "don't have to touch dead swans", and we'll obey that, even tho this cuts out 50% of national entertainment.
