So there I was playing my copy of Pro Evo 09, rather enjoying myself.

A mistimed tackle caused a replay to unfold before my eyes.

What I saw in the top left hand corner of my screen caused my whole perception of computer games to become suddenly infested with the real world and all it's s***.

Up there, hanging in the left hand corner of my screen was an advert – not just any advert but an advert trying to dissuade our nations 'youth' not to use / carry a knife!

Excuse me!

While I fully understand the need for this type of advertising and appreciate it's pertinent placement in such a game I found it tainted the innocence within my understanding of computer games.... does it not?

I don't remember seeing such advertising while Pogo'ing through Commander Keens' many worlds.

Nor do I recollect seeing such advertising down in Ultima Underworld's Labyrinths...dangerous as they were.

Games are about escapism and pleasure even if this takes the form of ultra violence ala 'Quarantine' (PC Abandonware for you not so old viewers...)

The real world and all it's truly tragic horrors, leave it out; Thanks!

Listen, Mr 4,249 posts, I have every right to 'get something of my chest' if I so wish.

My post was indeed of a personal nature and my main motivation behind my actually registering within a site that I visit regularly.

The fact that you don't appreciate my point, rambling though it was, speaks volumes about your inadequacy as a listener - let alone a moderator.

This is Bla Bla Bla. It is the forum used to spam things around. If you don't want people to step in without a serious reply, you should try posting this again in the Favorite forums instead.

Second, my post count and my moderator status change absolutely nothing. Especially since I am not moderator of Bla Bla Bla, but of Troubleshooting.

Third, I really meant my question. What could we possibly do about this? No doubt that the game makers made some money by advertising something which can be considered as a good cause by the majority of the population. Short than complaining directly to the company who made the game there is nothing much to do about it.

I didn't realise you meant the final point in a serious manner -

For the record, I don't think anything needs to be done about the said advert per se. I think the advert was a bit of a masterstroke for the UK and it's associated problems.

That said, I'm just glad that when I played games such as Commander Keen and such when I was young there wasn't such 'real world interferance'.


Hopefully I might hear the views from some like minded people?
