Default Freeware Mac RPG from 1996.

Odyssey - The Legend of Nemesis

Found this a while back when randomly web browsing.

I know absolutely nothing about this game, only that its Lead Designer has made it freeware.

* However, "Inside Mac Games" like it, judging form this "March 1996" review:
Quote:
"Odyssey: The Legend of Nemesis is the heir apparent of the mantle of the soul of Lord British. It has all the things that made an Ultima an Ultima: clean, crisp characterizations, multiple subplots, non-linear action and multiple solves for most puzzles, wry and often dry humor, and an interface so tight and sharp you could bounce quarters off of it... The writers of Odyssey have their heads on straight. They are approaching a fantasy role-playing game first by a series of interesting storylines, second by a simple interface that does not get in the way of unfolding the story, and third by weaving a story that is non-liner, unforced, and ultimately extremely satisfying. Bravo!"
* Jeff Vogel and Alex Seropian also also seem to have found it fun:

Quote:
"The best Mac fantasy role playing game I've ever played."
- Alexander Seropian, Founder, Bungie Software.

"Excelent work. Your blending of intricate plot into the game play was as well done as I've seen. I'm about to start Exile III... the yardstick's been raised."
- Jeff Vogel, creator of the fine Exile I & II
(Done with Odyssey? Go get Exile)
The Screenshots do look a bit like Vogel's old Exile RPG series.

The Developers archived version of the original (1996) website: Link (* This is the place I found those Quote's)

Wikipedia page on the games Lead Developer (and owner of Paranoid Productions): Richard Rouse III

Looks like this guy's moved up quite a lot since then...

So, do any of you guys know anything about this game?

It's not freeware, you still have to pay for the MAC.

After reading your post I did quick Google Search, and quickly found all this stuff.

So I'm a bit puzzled at what you meant by saying it not freeware?

It was a joke, I suppose. But back on topic, if you don't know about the game, I don't know who will. If you want to discuss the game, go ahead. Of course if this were a request (which it's not, judging from its location?) it would be unfortunately invalid for Abandonia. But if this game's become freeware, you can request it at Reloaded.

I know of it. I never played it though. It's one of those games I would've liked to get, but I had limited time and money, and there were other games I wanted more. I'm surprised the archive is only 7 MB. I think it was a CD-based game. I wonder if it's the true full game or a rip of it.

I just tried it, and it seems the archive is incorrectly labeled as .sit (Stuffit) and .hqx (BinHex), but it was only compressed using .sit. So if you run into a problem either extracting the archive or transferring the archive to a Mac, try deleting .hqx from the file name.
