Seeing that I'm running out of HDD space on my machine (...again... <_< 450 GB seems to be waay too little nowadays ), I've decided that some of the junk I've been accumulating would be best off burned to DVDs for storage rather than eating up HDD space.
Now... even if I labeled each and every DVD with a full content list, finding anything in what I project to be about 50 DVDs worth of stored data would still be a headache. Some years back, I remembered hearing about programs that could index the contents of the disc and save them to a database, so I went on the lookout - unfortunately, the number of them alone makes it pretty much impossible to check every one. Thus, I'd like to ask for the opinion of folks in here - what freeware programs of this kind have you been using and which one would you reccomend. Thanks. |

i just keep folders and files with propper names. Then all i need to do is print the tree to a TXT file. Each DVD/CD has one file. I keep all these files in one folder.
Then when i need something i only use Total Commander to search through text in the different files in that folder. simple, yet effective solution... works for me.

Disclib seems very versatile. Check it here
I'm using an old commercial program ADC (Advanced Disc Catalog) and it's working all OK, but there are better ones like Where Is It? Well, it was cheap enough back then, like 10 euros or so as Where Is It? costs whopping $ 39,95 nowadays! |

I'd recommended an external hd.
one of 400 GB shouldn't be that expensive.

That's the one I use:
http://www.cdrlabel.com/ The shareware version is fully working. Can be printed is columns, front through back, whatever. When you have many entries you can print them as jewel case booklets. Everything is customisable, fonts, columns, whatevers.
