wheras in the past wars were great for sorting out excess populations. espicailly when they started going socialist. (oddly enuff before ww1 there was a large comunist movement among the british working class) we have nukes now. it ceases to be a viable option. but unfortuantly as much as i want to be optimistic i know if i dont die soon im going to see wars over food shortage in my lifetime. or a massive plauge. (better keep smokin them ciggies then)
this is so annoying though. if the russians and americans had focused on the space race instead of building wdm's we wouldent be facing this.

Look guy's i don't what you can't understand, do you think know there is order on earth ??? There is only few countries that talking about space, others don't even look at it... The point is that the research will never stop, but can slow down... There was "MIR" there is the ISS station is building now, and there is other form of energy that can replace oil and petrol, just a few of them solar, atomic and hydrogen. And yes Americans can't even send a spaceship now and all americans austronauts fly with russian spaceship for free until know, i think the russian goverment state that the flying in space with russian spaceships it not for free anymore and there will be another try from America to send spaceship with austronauts in to space... I hope there will not be another tragedy like with Columbia.

its not that i think there is no order on earth. im not a total pessimist but
so many acres of arable land are needed per capita.
in other words with all our advances in medicall technoligy more people are living and being born. evry year the world population increases massivly. i think that at the moment as the figures stand we have 20/ mb 30 years untill we hit food shortages. mb less.
yes hydroponics could come into there own. but this is a capitilist world. if it is cheaper to murder population than it is to feed them. they will murder.
although this is a good excuse to invest in hydroponics

Progres can never be stopped.
Most of the things that they learned in ancient Greece were either redescovered or preserved, so people could have that knowledge centuries later.
But in between that knowlede was useless. Peope will be on the way to space, but not soon.

The old saying says - you need to take a step back, before you can take two steps ahead.

Well humanity is about to take a big step back. It's the natural way of progress - unfortunately we will be the ones feeling the downside of this step back.

1st Yes I am Hellinas.

2nd, I think you are being a bit just a bit pessimistic for no good reason. In terms of our species we will make it, unless something sudden takes place of epic proportions. I have thought about the fuel debate a lot of the years. What I do not understand is the companies that are in charge of energy now. They do know there will be problems soon. As companies they will not want to stop have all this power :-) when oil is no more. Me thinks they already have sufficient new technologies, just hidding them. Reason being there is an enormous investment and profit from oil. There is no reason to market something else as long as they can make profit from the current situation and then where the wells go dry :-) they can present the "new" one, make profit out of that and not waste any of that oil that still exists. It makes perfect sense to me.

3rd, we could always trade with aliens.

4th, I doubt there will be any food shortages (at least big ones) for the "West". If things go bad, the poor countries could be let to die from hunger and then, surprise! new lands! Considering how much waste in terms of food (from production to destribution) already takes place, just fixing that would be enough (with our current production of food) to feed a much larger world population. The problem is, where is the profit in such action? Which (together with other things) leads me to think of a very ugly future for our species. Considering how thousands die every day from hunger and for other easily curable problems, I don't see how those who can help will in the future.
On the other hand I have a problem with the whole giving for free anything to those countries. UNLESS, there is a dramatic change to the controling factions of the countries of the world that is. The world will go on, people will die by the millions as they do now. Change is needed, but, who will lead and who will follow?
Still, I am optimistic about it.

belive there are a lot of very real conspiracys and evil things going on on this planet planned by rich guys who wear expensive suits and stroke white cats while sitting on hi backed leather swivel chairs. as for the moon landing thing though i found a great site that takes the conspiracy theories and completly disproves em. it is here
