The funny thing is, the Dutch word 'lol' means fun (in a laughing manner). They're unrelated; it's just a funny coincedence.

Sometimes it means Lots o' Love. But in this case since the smiley is LOL it means Laugh Out Loud as he is laughing. I am pretty familiar with abbreviations like that as I used to always talk like that. CYA L8R. LOL this is FUN. URAQT. Hehe. Not.
