I just read the dissapearing games topic (I've been gone for a few weeks so I haven't seen it till now). What a travesty. As I understand it, this was brought on by abandonia having some games available for download, that the abandonia team didn't know were ESA protected.
So I was wondering: does anybody knows if a full list of ESA protected games exist? I checked out ESA's site, but couldn't find such a list. If such a list existed, it would be a lot easier determining what to put on the site, and what to leave alone. Unfortunately it's a big hassle for anyone but ESA to make such a list due to copyrights changing hands, and most companies not mentioning what copyrights they own. |

It's not so much a list of games as it is a list of companies that made them (except if we have permision to host the games).

Yeah, I know they have a list of companies that they represent, but figuring out which copyrights each of those companies own would probably be rather difficult without ESA's help. Surely they must have a list of those copyrights. How else can they hope to represent their clients adequately?

their clients are the compnies - why make a ridiculously hard to compile list to help illegal abandonware sites? it's easier to check a specific game's makers/publishers against the list of companies than the game itself.

Also, I can see that you've been unable to find out about the status of some games (which is not surprising at all, I imagine that making a complete list would be an obscene amount of work). It's a bit strange though, that ESA doesn't release a list like that. Surely it would help to protect their clients, as a lot of abandonware sites would simply steer clear of those games.
Good job, though. Is the entire list (well, what you've done so far) located somewhere on abandonia? |

Yup.
But it is hidden :bleh: The most buggy list is in the admin forum. Haven't updated that one for months. The next is in the updater forum, still not very updated, but better than that in the admin forum. The list that gets updated reguarly is placed the ultimate DOS list forum, which is only accessible to me and Timpsi. Timpsi has agreed to help me with the list, as I am very busy all the time. The list will be placed on the Main Site when we have been satisfied with the list. And it is DOS (and PC Booter) only, because Windows games are being made on a daily basis, and keeping track would be impossible. We are however considering implementing Windows games at some point, but that is far into the future.
