For those who do not know.....

From Wikipedia;

MUD (Multi-User Dungeon, Domain or Dimension) is a multi-player computer game that combines elements of role-playing games, hack and slash style computer games and social chat rooms. Typically running on a bulletin board system or Internet server, the game is usually text driven, where players read descriptions of rooms, objects, events, other characters, and computer-controlled creatures or non-player characters (NPCs) in a virtual world. Players usually interact with each other and the surroundings by typing commands that resemble a natural language, usually English.

While cleaning through the terabytes of my mastercomputer's brain, I stumbled onto a RAR archive containing the remains of a partially built world that has been floating around the subconsciousness of my HD for a few years. The previous group that was helping me construct the project lost interest and the site went down. Naturally.

Who has MUD/MOO experience, and who would like to use that experience to help build a virtual playground for those of us here on abandonia who desire a strong environment for roleplay.

Welcoming your ideas.....

I have tried many muds, but there is one where I still pop-up time to time: The Discworld Mud.

So yes, I have experience and Im ready to support with ideas. However, one thing.....

What theme? Fantasy? Sci-Fi? Erotic?

I was hoping to stray from the typical genre...

I've been pondering a small world. One that somewhere between Urban/Metro meets Sci-Fi.

A capture the city type mud perhaps...

Ideas?

I got it: An office mud!

Quest and actions in a huge skycraper, filled with white collar workers, greedy bosses and other people. Players can try to become bosse's themself's, earn money so they can buy lots of neat stuff, backstab eachothers with pencils, have sex in a storage room...etc.

Does anyone watch Office? We could get lots of ideas from there.

While that is a good idea, im trying to stay away from a network television theme. Perhaps an area could be scripted into the city that would cater to this notion.

Hows' this for a starting point.

[attachmentid=3978]

A small cityscape. The remains of what used to be a larger city.

This is the foundation to the city. All things will be built from this city model.

Things to do:
1. Name Our City. [ ]
2. Produce fiction explaining the origins of the city, and its current culture. [ ]
3. Design a logo or crest for our new world [ ]
4. Fill the positions of builders and writers [ ]

A small checklist for starters....

How is this stuff scripted? Does one need a special program?

For me it is scripted using a blend of java and a language somewhat like BASIC for the simple game scripts.

I have a server running Linux. I've modify the source and compiled it in bash. It is possible to do the same thing within windows. Many mud codebases offer thier source for free on a multitude of platforms.
