Just wondering how many people here feel genocide and mass murder is okay.

The Japanese government has been slowly changing their textbooks, and now they say Japan was basically not an aggressor during WW2, and things like the NanJing Massacre where Japanese troops killed 300,000 people, most were civilians never happened.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanjing_Massacre

Japan also had many biological and chemical testing sites in China, very similar to what the Nazis had. A famous site was unit unit 731 outside Harbin, where prisoners were infected with the plague, and water thrown on them in -30C cold to test frostbite, amongst many other war crimes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_731

Why am I angry? Because Japan caused the death of about 15 million people in Asia due to their aggression in the 1930's and 1940's. Unlike the Germans, they NEVER apologized. Now they are trying to delete this sad part of their history.

The Japanese were just as bad as the Nazis but in Asia. The truth should not be covered up.

The truth about the Americans never truely did get out, they too had concentration camps and rounded up Japanese people into them. It is wrong that the Japanese government are doing this but it is rather like the pot calling the kettle black.

the soviets killed 20-30 million during the 1941-1945 war, no less than half of them THEIR OWN civilians, and noone ever asked THEM to apologise!
and it's not okay to have genocide, it's okay to "forgive and forget".

What appology will do? Bring dead people back?

And who should give appology?

Were all Japanese killers in those camps?

IMHO, whoever give the orders, that person should be charged, and as far as I know those people where prosecuted for all crimes. Same thing with Germans, after the WWII.

But changing the history is kind of strange. Will read a bit more about that....

Everybody commits crimes against humanity, and against morality, during war time, it's natural.I don't agree with their methods, but sadly whenever a war is going on, the civilians are the ones who suffer the most, and i think this will never change, unless we replace our flesh and blood soldiers with androids CAPABLE of distinguishing between enemy threat and non-violent(or harmless) civilians.

even then, it might not be solved- civilians are the source of the enemys strength (you can have as many soliders as you want, as long as they have no food or ammo they won't be a good army), and as such killing them might be part of the same tactics as bombing factories.

60 years... won't the people that're 70 and older complain? They lived during those days and perfectly well know what it was like and what happened. Basically telling them those memories're fake seems to be plain wrong.

Don't get me wrong. I am aware that warfare is cruel.

1) War crimes have been commited by almost all countries in one time or another. However, it is the scale of what the Japanese did which stands out.
They killed 15 million people in Asia.

2) Sure, Stalin killed more. Stalin purged the communist party to get rid of his enemies but this spread and he caused the death of about 20 million Russians.

3) Americans, put Japanese into war camps during WW2. But @R Havell, they were kept as prisoners. They were not systematically raped and then killed.

4) There are not many Japanese around that are responsible for these crimes, and an apology will not bring back dead people.

I haven't heard the Serbs apologize for what they did in Bosnia or Kosovo.

But what I find hard to accept, and also find the Japanese living today responsible for, is that they are saying these things never happened.

This is one of the reasons I've always disliked Japan. Japan has never felt sorry about its past, if anything they've always glorified it by honoring the memory of the generals responsible for serveral crimes against humanity, including the gassing of innocent civilians.

Think of it this way.

If Germans started saying what happened during WW2 was not wrong, and the holocaust never happened, then started stating this in their textbooks.

Be honest

1) What would your real reaction be? I think surprised if not shocked.

2) What realistically would the World say?

3) What would Jews and Israel have to say?
