Default Problems of running Castle of the Winds

]I downloaded Castle of the Winds from My Abandonware Games.
Link here http://www.myabandonware.com/I have a Internet friend who knows a lot about emulators but he's European and because of the laws of there he would not give me a file. I have seen this YouTube to video of how to boot the game. Link here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojFQw1IywZs
but on the last step I don't get any screen shots and posting below.
The other forum I ask in says I need Windows 3.x is there a recommendation of where to get it for free?

No offense, but your friend is a bit less knowledgeable than he claims.
Emulators are perfectly legal as they don't contain copies of copyrighted code or data (which DOSBox doesn't).

We have a Windows 3.11 package ready to run in DOSBox: http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=27770

Obviously, the assumption is that you already have DOSBox installed on your system. If you don't, check the tutorial section:

OK thanks. Do I have to throw the file in or extract Windows 3.11 package in the C Drive or put it in the file of DOSBox? And can you guide through the process to run the actual game?

Yes, I can.
I assume you have installed DOSBox already.

Since you're new to this and appear to be somewhat confused, let's start with the basics and go step by step.

First: What are you mounting as the C drive in DOSBOX ?

If that question does not seem to make any sense, please go to this part of the Beginner's Guide for an explanation of drive mounting in DOSBox (and this one to learn how to automate it).
Note that mounting the root of your system drive as the DOSBox C drive is a BAD idea, and in this case exceptionally so.

The folder name is called MSDOSGAMES and I put all games in that format there. And I have the 0.74 version of DosBox so would it require Norton Commander?

Perfect. In this case.
* Download this: http://files.abandonia.com/extras/Pr...r%20DOSBox.rar
* Unpack the downloaded archive to MSDOSGAMES
* Start DOSBox and type in windows to run Windows 3.11

In order to run the game, you have two options.
* The first is to use the file File Manager found in the Main group to find and launch the game's executable.
* The second is to create a new Program Group in Program Manger (File->New) and then new Program Items (ie shortcuts) in it. You can add them instead to an existing group if you want, it's your choice.

It's a 16-bit Windows game. It will work fine on 32-bit versions, but can't be ran directly on 64-bit ones.
