Default Abandonian Team Fortress 2 Server Discussion

Thanks to the efforts of Phreeze_lu, Abandonia now has (for the time being, at least) its own Team Fortress 2 dedicated server! Given as there isn't a proper thread to discuss the server, its map rotation, etc, I've decided to create a thread dedicated to such things.

In order to find our server, you'll need to add the server address 212.117.167.50:27500 to your list of favorite servers. If you don't know how to do this, please read the instructions below:
how to add the server to your favorites list

Given as there's quite a lot of stuff in Team Fortress 2, I highly recommend looking at the Official Team Fortress 2 Wiki for a complete and comprehensive guide to everything TF2. Also, the folks at PC Gamer have put together an excellent, multi-part guide to playing Team Fortress 2. You can find their guide here.

Current map rotation:
ctf_2fort
cp_freight_final1
ctf_turbine
ctf_well
ctf_doublecross
cp_yukon_final
cp_badlands
pl_goldrush
cp_egypt_final
cp_degrootkeep
koth_harvest
cp_gorge
pl_badwater

Two things I'd like to post here, to get the talk officially underway. You may speak about the AB's TF2 server or TF2 in general.

And with this, I'd like to take the moment to ask.....does anyone have a spare Eyelander? Would love to have them. I can trade them for my spare junk:

Claidheamh Mòr (The second Demoman sword)
Ubersaw (Secondary Medics bonesaw. Builds ubercharge on hit, but it slower to swing)*

*Items marked with star are also available if you complete enough achievements. Just saying it so you wont later feel that you have been ripped off if you receive them by this way.

And after that whoring out, some warnings:

When browsing at the server lists, you might have found servers listed under name Nighteam and Saigns. Despite the fact it looks like a proper playground, its not.

Both servers have their own "Premium" plugin. If you pay the server owner, you become their "premium" member.

This is what premium players get in their servers:

http://www.nighteam.com/index.php?do=premium
https://www.saigns.de/premium/index.php

So in other words, if you pay, you get a free pass to cheaters hell, giving you the unfair advantage over everyone else. Imagine how fun it would be playing against a premium player? I advice putting these servers on your blacklist, or at least add the words saigns and nighteam in tag removal on your server search.

Also, there's bots in both of servers. Their own bots, which purpose is to just take space. Seriously.

Yeah those servers are pretty stupid, also the game is balanced differently so for instance demoman has 6 grenades instead of 4 etc. Steam won't count anything you do on these servers in statistics.

How often are you supposed to find new items? it seems rather slow to me, I can't imagine having enough spare to craft things unless I wanted to concentrate on a single class. I find the whole item thing rather odd really, it can be a little unbalancing too, especially on that melee only map (medieval one?)

You receive new items between 30-70 minutes, in an 10 hour cap. The cap resets every Thursday. Crates and items received other ways dont count towards the cap (and dueling minigames too, I think).

Looks like I need to focus on a couple of classes then, if I ever want to craft anything. No way I'll be playing it long enough to kit out all of them!

Any melee weapon will do, but its actually the shield that has the charging attack. Both Chargin' Targe and Splendid Screen have charging (used with second mouse button) which can be activated any time. Splendid Screen has longer charging, while Chargin' Targe offers more protection against fire and explosions.

Also remember that Ali Baba's Wee Booties allows you to turn while charging, while normally you just charge straight where you look at. This will cost you your Grenade Launcher and, If you have sticky launcher replaced with shield, you no longer have any explosives at use. This item combo is more preferable in Medieval mode, were guns and explosives aren't allowed, but I've seen a lot of good Demoknight players who rely on their melee weapon alone, and they're quite deadly kind of players.
