1. The guest said clearly he was running it on an actual 486 system.
2. This thread has been goddamn DEAD for three years! And as it's not the first time you dig up old threads and bring their corpses back up, I won't be as tolerant as before This is the nice message I received. Sorry I misunderstood the old thread rule. I'm afraid I don't have 20 hours a day to post 30,000 times. I am not a computer genius like all the mod, V.I.P."s etc. I just looked up the game on your search engine and thought I would add a bit as yes I knew it was a 486 he was talking about as I had to fight with game on DOS when the game came out. That's after my AMIGA 500. Dead for three years, so? I can understand why you would want to close thread's when it is nothing but everyone whining at each other. But why close out the troubleshooting when someone might add a new idea. If you use your search engine for GNBNA all anyone will see is the old thread. Why start up a new thread to add to the thousands when you could have all of the troubleshooting on this game on one? At least in troubleshooting would not this be better? If you just want to say you are right no matter what and talk down to me and close this thread fine. I would hate to leave abandonia but it's your kingdom. The reason this is not PM as I am sure will be pointed out is I am talking about a rule change just for the troubleshooting that I believe should be considered. If I am soooo wrong, ok. I will not come back and whine about it over and over. Nor will I curse about it. Just give your oldest member (age) a break.

Who sent you that PM? It seems rude for what's a minor misdemeanor, made in good faith. Sorry if that was one of our mods.
And yes, the forum guidelines do advise against posting in old threads, as most of the people involved in the discussion will probably have left, or at least forgotten about the thread. Personally, I don't see the problem, if you've something new to add to a discussion, then bringing the thread to the top of the list will prompt members to read it, and perhaps discover something interesting in the process. In terms of cluttering up the forum, it's no worse than starting up a new thread. But whatever, it's not really a forum rule, more of a guideline, plus there's lots subjective about it, such as when a thread becomes old, etc. Incidentally, I wouldn't be so sure about your "oldest member" claim http://www.abandonia.com/forum/index.php?showuser=3247 (Yes, that is his age, he still fairly active on the forum too) |

I'm with you on this one too, there should be a topic for one game, not ten for the same game.

If you found something interesting to say about something and find a three old thread sleeping somewhere about the same topic, just start another one. Nobody will remember what the heck was all about three years ago anyways. As a good rule of thumb, just don't disturb threads from one month old and up. |

Standard netiquette is pretty much standard common sense. Not aknowledging it is pretty much like sipping your soup, talking loudly at dinner, making unappropriate sexual or disgusting jokes while some people are not finished eating and similar faux pas.
Which mean that it won't really make a real difference and you won't absolutly get into trouble for it. But it will sure annoy the hell out of those who care, and it's not going to give you a good reputation. As for netiquette rules, would I really need to give out a link for it? Just fire up your prefered search engine and you should get a few dozains direct links. I know Wikipedia have a nice page about it. |

I know what etiquette nee. netiquette means, no need to provide a link, that would just be patronizing
Besides, I have found that each various community tends to have it's own little peccadillo's and versions of "good manners." It was just an observation, not the beginnings of an argument. Unless you're up for one, but I'd rather argue about the nature of faith or why creationism is insane

i dont' see a problem in old threads.
especially if person adds some new thing (like we have in games on abandonia section). think about it in a few years someone might search for some problem and he might as well find some archive about this topic and he will find his solution there. intead of havign to go through 50 threads on same topic. i mean it's a problme if someone uses a search engine and replies to an old thread and agian it's a problem if osmeone posts a new thread about a problem that was discussed before but he has slightly different file system. so what is right now?!? i mena you are not allowed to make a new thread and you are not allowed to write in old thread on same topic. what are you allowed then? if the old topics souldn't be resurected then they should be either closed or moved to archive instead of scolding off the members just for using forum features.
