I just got Descent here because it was the first game I ever owned. Well, I got the files, but when I start the Descent.bat file (the file I'm supposed to use)the game starts up, I select the player, then select new game. The dude-man goes through my briefing, then I see the planet I'm going to be on and it's description, and then "Prepare to Descent" comes up in the gray box, some weird code or something comes up, the game stops and then I see a MSDOS window with the same code/whatever and I have to close it. Then what I did was I downloaded DosBox, and I ran Descent through that. The game no longer crashes, instead it goes very, very, very, very slow. Even when I speed up the game, not that much happens. I'm running on a Windows ME, 400 Mhz, 256 RAM, and a 32 MB video card (obviously more than enough). What am I doing wrong? What do you reccomend?

I posted this in an other oard, but I think this type of thing is supposed to be postsed here.

Your "obviously way than enough" 400 megahertz is really slow to run DOSBox. I recommend at least 1 gigahertz to run it.

DOSBox is pure emulation and this is extremely heavy on computer calculation. This is why you need a fast computer to run it efficiently.

I don't think you need to search further the cause of your slowdown.

go here and download a windows executable for descent so you won't need dosbox to play it

That would be a nice alternative.

OK, I started Descent again (I still didn't download the files that you reccomened though), and it worked, only thing is that I'm bouncing up and down in the game. I think I might be going a bit fast too.

Ok you are using ME right? (great platform for games) check your compatability, you should be able run this game at a slower clock setting. Right click on the file you want to open and choose properties and then compatability then just mess with it to see if you can slow her down!
