I also noticed that the 0.74 version of DosBox has problems starting some games, where 0.73 does not (which is why I'm still using 0.73). If nothing helps, try to load the game under version 0.73 and see if it works.

mount c c:\DosBox\CDrive
mount F F:\ -t cdrom
mount G G:\ -t cdrom

I then have separate folders for all my games (Lands for Lands of Lore, Anvil for Anvil of Dawn, etc.) inside the "CDrive" folder.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Are you trying to run the CD version of this game? If so try changing the CD mount to D. Otherwise your mounts look fine. Maybe try getting Dosbox 0.73 (you can install it on your computer and it will be in a different folder than 0.74, in other words you will have both.) and see if that helps.

I am using the version of the game on the Abandonia site (the "regular" version, not an ISO Cellar version). Whether this is the CD version or not, I don't know.

The mount for my F drive is for an actual CD-ROM, the one for my G drive is actually a virtual drive, for when I mount ISO's and such.

I downloaded and installed version .73 of DosBox, and get the same issue - after I choose a character, there is a brief "flash" of the choose screen (I think), then it just dies to a black screen.

I do not own an actual physical CD version of this game.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Michael

Use the commands like that:

mount c c:\ -freesize 800
mount D F:\ -t cdrom
mount G G:\ -t cdrom
c:
cd \dosbox\cdrive\your Lands of Lore folder

and see if that helps.

Unfortunately, this did not help. Thanks though.

I also have the problem mentioned. Once I choose my character, the screen dies off. Downloaded the game from Abandonia, tried again, and same problem occurs. Also, there should be voice acting at the character selection, I think, but all there is is music.

All I mounted was the game directory as c:, and that well enough got the game started. Using Vista and Dosbox 0.7.4.

Anyone? This game's a part of my childhood.

Best regards
-Petrus

Well the first thing is to not mount the games folder as the C: drive. Your mounts should look more like this.

Mount C C:\oldgames (Or whatever you have the folder you store your old games in.)
C:
Cd\Lands (or whatever you have the game folder saced as.)

For the sound check that you have run the install or setup to set the sound card right. Ley us know how you go as these are really only the first things to try.

For what it's worth after a fast testrun:
Better run that one in dosbox 0.72, seems problematic in dosbox 0.74, must be it doesn't like the newer core emulation. Don't have time now to debug that game, so run it in 0.72.

FYI: you can install 0.72 besides 0.74, they won't interfere wiith eachother, 0.72 will also have own 0.72 start menu items.
As you're on Vista follow the 0.74 instructions I linked you to, both are almost the same.

Dosbox 0.72, default config, extract all files in the archive to \your virtual c:drive\lands\ , archive is ready to run 'as is' in dosbox 0.72.

[Edit]
Apparently it's a game version problem.
http://www.dosbox.com/comp_list.php?showID=50&letter=
AB's version is 1.05 as shown on the intro.
An update to 1.23 would be advised .........
