-------------------------------------------------

Since some people are willing to participate in such activity as forum games (there's a whole forum section for them), how about giving some recognition to users who spend their time to identify/find games forgotten by others? Perhaps a thread with a counter of "helped" cases next to user's name?

There was a recent surge of new users registering solely to ask about the game they forgot...

Why? For boasting around like "look how much I helped"? Helping others isn't about gathering praise. Well, it's shouldn't be anyway.

If you're into egality, demand the removal of post counters and those fancy badges:

Old users go, new users come, how can they tell a helpful knowledgeable member from "show me how can I haz play RPG" spammer with high post count?

Well, I totally agree with RRS, you might have noticed we began opening sub-forums under the FGB, for example, we have:

- Abandonia Case Files: this forum lists the threads that have been successfully answered and verified by the person who queried the board
- Unverified - Someone has found a link to a game that meets all requirements written in the definition of the game, but the asker has not verified the content.
- Cold Cases - It is almost impossible to find the game, mostly because of the poor description or the disapperance of the asker.

The first sub-forum also lists who solved each question, we only need to count it somehow, IIRC currently The Fifth Horseman is the first by solving 4 questions, followed by Eagle of Fire who solved 2 along with someone else, and a half dozen people who solved one question each.

Completely missed these, thanks for pointing to them.

Whoever moves those threads there could at the same time update a forum post containing a list of people next to the number of solved cases.

I think something went wrong with moving some threads:
Some solved threads also seem to have been moved to "request games".
e.g.
http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=29402

I'd propose to move them back into the FGB, because it's very difficult to find them again...

That is because solved threads were meant to be removed from the FBG to only leave the unsolved ones, and solved ones would be in Request Games so they could be re-evaluated whether they can be Approved or not. We can get a lot of new games to the site. People tend to search for obscure shareware, freeware, and some classic titles that are unknown to many. For your information, Mobygames lists about 4000 DOS games that are not on Abandonia.

Do I understand correctly that only those that are already on the site go into the "closed cases"?

No, the idea was that we moved certain threads to Request Games so we could see if they were abandonware, but the system is subject to changes.

If there is too many possibilities where the threads are moved to - that makes them too difficult to find (I already missed several ones).
Especially if the rules are not easy.

I propose to move them (back) to the FGB subforums *only*.
About the "requested games" etc. - A reference /new thread should do a better job.
