I wouldn't think that F-29 Retaliator would be the solution, because its borders don't turn into multiple colours when you get hit.

How about Overlord?
No flashing borders that I can remember (although you could shrink down the view so it didn't fill the entire screen). It did feature pilots when at base, and one of the planes, the typhoon, had anti-tank rockets. |
