I know there is a way to repair scratched cd's. Seach a little in computer stores and ask there, you should be able to find something which "rebuild" your cd if it's only slighly scratched. It may be some kind of wax or something which fill the tiny gaps the scratches make, I'm not sure... But I'm sure some stuff exist for that.
That stuff works by resurfacing the CD with a mild abrasive. In doing so, scraches are eliminated (or at least reduced) by wearing down the entire surface of the disc. Using wax or another substance to fil in the scratches would screw up the optics.

I've had discs ejected out spinning once or twice...So I guess it's possible to scratch them over time, but I highly doubt you'll get it one to shatter without cutting it practically in half first.

well my disks get ejected spinning pretty much all the time and going round on a plastic base isnt great for scratches.. it sounds bad.
also one time my 170quid xp cd spun off the tray and got lodged in the drive slot
CDs only have a limited life. Its a fairly long one but its still limited. 3 1/2 in floppies are incredibly unreliable. on the one hand I have some 14 year old DOS floppies that are fine. On the other hand some 2 year old ones are broken. Compared to this CDs are much better
I saw a report in a magasine they were testing CD-Rs to see how long they lasted. apparently some died in 6 months. They were CD-Rws and they used them according to average use

besides. dont worry about it!
some games offer replacement CD services anyway

Try the program DriveSpeed to stop the cd spinning before you eject it.

It happened to me once. CD accelerated and accelerated, and when i've tried to stop it... Well... It flew trough my room and broke on the wall. It was a fun CD.
So if your CD accelerates in the drive to very, very high speeds, please put a pillow on the other side of the room, and seek for cover, to avoid a cloud of debris. :bleh:
Or try DriveSpeed. Useful program.
