Does anyone use snes9x? Was wondering if anyone knew why my system locks up whenever I select sync-sound in the tool-bar. It's an issue mainly because it DOES make a sound difference, especially when playing Castlevania 4. Pretty sure it's not my specs that's the problem, but am curious if anyone else has this, and if they've fixed it.

WINDOWS XP PRO SP2, ABIT IC7-G 875p
1.5Gig PC3200, 128Mb RADEON 9600

I used to think that, but the sound is terrible in comparrison, and my logitech dual action controller is much more responsive on the other emulator. Unless you know how to fix those issues, I do have both, but I use snes9x most of the time.

Huh?

The reason I like ZSNES so much better is because the sound is unparalleled.

ZSNES is better in every way then snes9x, unles you are mac / linux user (not sure if they have mac version). Also compatibility is better on zsnes.

I would have to try this at home to see if it locks up.

i had to use snes9x for a long time as zsnes messed up the map in final fantasy 3 Japanese version....

not sure if their latest version would be better though

hm well 1.40 is very recent so it might be a bug. try 1.36
zsnes should be a lot better than snes9x, although they may have improved it a lot since i last tried it. ill try the new version.
i used to talk to pagefault (one of the zsnes team) on irc, and he told me that using the gaussian sound option is the best one. its not always clear which is the best quality option to pick in emulators, but thats the right one unless you have a slow computer.

Still can't see how the sound is better in zsnes than snes9x. If anyone uses this, or cares to try both, it'd be nice to have a balanced view. I like the snes9x one for a couple of reasons. It allows me to push the graphics to 1600x1200, when I set my logitech dual action gamepad the setup diagrams my controller so there is no confusion as what does what, and if I could get the sound to keep working in sync-sound, I'd be a happy camper. Has ANYONE tried the sync-sound on this one?
the zsnes always has checksum failed also, no matter what sound setting I try.

oh i see sync-sound is a snes9x option. i wasnt clear on that.

you dont need 1600x1200
the sound options in snes9x are still rubbish compared to zsnes.
gaussian is better than cubic spline, and both are miles better than linear.. only linear is available in snes9x.

in zsnes 1.40 the controller config is a lot easier, because it says 'pick a button for up/down/left/right/right paddle/left paddle/start/select/then the 'coloured buttons' and usefully now, tells you what position each one is. i have a psx-alike p.c controller so it was simple to map the keys in 5 seconds exactly like a snes pad.
