Get DOSBox.

I understand what you mean, Halbringer, but it's kind of moot seeing as the site's name is Abandonia - Home of classic DOSgames.

Of course we understand, but fact is that even if some games run directly in XP you're better off using dosbox.

There are certain exceptions to this, notably Free Enterprise or Descent. Dosbox also needs significant system resources; it was so flaky on my machine before I brought it up to 512MB of RAM that I was stuck with either VDMSound or a Windows patch before I could play anything.

I don't even dare to ask what your CPU is. With anything less than 512Mb you're much better off with W2K instead of XP. Really.

i agree with the original poster
i dont know why but my computer hates dosbox, only a handful of games work, its stupidly slow and it has a tendency to crash unexpectedly but i know all games that are xp compatible work perfectly on it so it would be extremely handy for me at least to have an xp filter
and before anyone says anything, other than the fact its 512, xp and 4 years old i dont know much about the specs of my computer, im not a computer buff, so it'll all just be greek to me anyway!! |
