I have the game myself (ISO)

With combined forces of Daemon Tools and Dosbox I am able to play it.

What do you have?
An iso (cd-image) or just the files?

Hi,

I followed this thread eagerly up to the point that help was "PM'd" to the user...

:help:

Please please please! I have the EXACT same problem, Underdogs CD-ripped ZIP file version of Bioforge, latest DOS Box, created a burned CD called "Bioforge" with the contents of the ZIP file in the root of the CD, but still get an error when trying to install saying it can't see the CD.

Any chance those instructions you PM'd could be put into the thread? Pretty please! With cherries on top!

I hope you see this, after all this time. ;(

Bioforgers must help another in need. :P

2 ways to do this. Dosbox needs you to mount your game cd drive, otherwise bioforge wont know where it is. The alternate is to play the game off your HD. It was a lot easier to do it then, imo, then no-cd's of today (what with the securom BS and the like).

Anyway, method 1.
Download the latest version of dosbox. :P
Then install the game from the cd to C: or D:\Bioforge (whatever your scratch drive is)
Once that's done, configure sound/music from the same setup menu, save and exit.

Now run dosbox.

In DOSBox, mount up your scratch drive.

type in...

mount C C:\
(Where C is for your scratch drive letter)

hit enter

next type...

mount E "E:\" -t cdrom -ioctl
(Where E is the letter of your cd drive bioforge cd is in)

hit enter

type...

cd bioforge

hit enter

type...

bioforge

hit enter...

Bam. Game should be loading up off cd.

Method 2
Alternate - playing it off the HD.
Install bioforge onto the scratch drive, same as in method 1.
Using notepad, open up the file install.opt in the bioforge game directory. The first path in the line leads to your drive letter. IE: E or F. Change that directory to the same letter of the scratch drive, so basically it points itself in the direction of the other files in the list.

Now open the game cd in explorer, drag everything, hit copy, and paste it in the bioforge game directory. DO NOT OVERWRITE ANYTHING. This way, it just fills in blanks.

Now the game is set to read off the HD. All the files needed from the CD are also on the HD.

Mount your scratch drive like in method 1.

Then type...

cd bioforge

then type...

bioforge

hit enter...

Bam. Now it should be loading off the HD.

Unfortunately, that's as far as I get. When the game starts, the character "LEX", as the game creators have nicknamed our cyborg friend, is on the labtable.

Instead of the earthquake scene loading and Lex waking up, it just hangs there and he stays asleep as the music plays. The nursebot doesn't wake him either, just sits there. (Not that it ever did wake him up, more like put him down after waking)
The game readme file states...

"Q: When I start the game, I only hear music and then the game locks up with
a character (Lex) just sleeping in his bed. What's wrong?

A: You may be running some caching software for your VLB or PCI controller
(Input/Output) card then is interfering with BioForge. Try making a boot
disk as described in the Install Guide to resolve this problem."

That's my problem I guess. And i've no way of fixing it/don't know how. Whether that has to be done through dosbox (v6.5), or some other way, i'd really REALLY like to know.

Anyway, hope that helped/hope it helps somebody considering how late this post is from the reply.
