Arcomage
Arcomage was at first only a mini game within Might and Magic VII. You could only play it in taverns.
I think it was later released as a low budget title of its own. I'd love to see it on abandonia because it was really fun to play. |

Both M&M VII and VIII have it. And yes, you're right it was also released separately. It was an effort by 3DO's infamous CEO, Trip, to wring every cent out of the M&M franchise, even if he killed it in the process: releasing M&M VIII over the protests of the team that it wasn't finished yet, demanding work on those mini-modules for the Heroes of M&M series, Arcomage by itself, etc. I think it was a beautiful addition to the M&M series, but can't see playing it outside the RPG except as freeware--which of course, it isn't. I'm amazed it hasn't been released to the public by whomever currently owns the rights.

Mmm, indeed. I think it would have sold well if they'd have just released Acromage, this one, as freeware WITH the game. Like, have it on a seperate disc. Maybe even release it with game magazines. Heh, oh well. Some people just take the wrong turns I guess.

Buylink no longer exists, and I couldn't find any elsewhere. Therefore, this game now meets Abandonia's Definition of Abandonware. As such...

I've got an archive of it somewhere on my home PC. Will look it up once I'm out of hospital.

Full version is on FTP now. Works fine in Windows XP (tested both with SP2 and SP3), with the following considerations:
* The installer must be run in Win95/98 compatibility mode * Desktop color depth must be set either to 256 colors or 16-bit color before launching the game. On a side note, it appears easy to translate. Polish and Czech translation "patches" exist (they just replace the sprite file with a set where the texts have been translated) |
