Anyone know where I can find a legible scan of the original map? Kinda hard to play when you have no clue where stuff is.

I never used a map, because they did tell you where to go or at least in what direction... so I used to walk around a lot which is part of the game to endure that and get hunted

Still got my original boxed copy, the hint guide, and that map. It really was one of the more detailed efforts at map creation in a game I've seen. Microprose really sank some money into giving a feel for their RPG--unlike several more recent titles I could name.
